Local MSP, Michael Russell, has welcomed the plans to reopen the post office at Sandbank in Cowal – with longer opening hours. The post office will operate from an open plan till, located at the shop counter at 1 Oakfield Place (the end shop).
Mr Russell says: ‘I have received notification that the Sandbank Post Office will re-open at new premises after almost a couple of years without the Village having the service.
‘This is welcome news for the local residents who have had to travel into Dunoon to access the service. The community has been without the facility since September 2011.
‘Post Offices are an essential part of any rural community and I have campaigned hard for their retention for many years, unfortunately we have seen the demise of many of them in Argyll and Bute.
‘It is therefore very good news when we see a branch re-opened. The opening date is yet to be confirmed and will depend on refurbishment timescales but the communty will be delighted with the extended opening hours of 6am until 9pm 7 days a week. I wish the new venture well.’
